Scranton collected most of her amateur victories in her home state of Illinois. She won the 1983 Illinois Women's State Championship, the 1979 and 1982-83 Southern Illinois Championship and the 1981-82 St. Louis Metro Championship. Splitting her collegiate career between Florida State and the University of Kentucky, Scranton registered three top-five finishes, including victories at the 1984 Western Kentucky Invitational and the 1984 Southern Illinois University Invitational. Scranton was named All-Southeastern Conference in 1983.
