Sherri attended Furman University, where she was the first female recruited for golf. A member of the AIAW National Championship team which included Betsy King, Beth Daniel and Cindy Ferro. Sherri was a medalist at three collegiate tournaments and was selected to the AllAmerican Team in 1979. Sherri qualified for the Tour in 1984. In 1988, Sherri posted 17 top 10 finishes and was the Leading Money Winner. Sherri was named Female Player of the Year by Golf Writers Association of America, Golf Illustrated, Golf World, and Golf Magazine. She was also voted by her peers as Player of the Year. In 1989, Sherri finished 10th on the money list and won the Oryx Hawaiian Ladies Open. She finished runner-up at the 1999 U.S. Women's Open. Sherri had 94 top 10 finishes in her LPGA Career. Career low round of 63 posted 3 times. Retired at age 52 after 25 years on the LPGA Tour. Turner was inducted into the Furman Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989. She is an honorary member of the South Carolina Hall of Fame. She was a member of the LPGA Player Executive Committee from 1997-99. Member of the Legends Tour Board from 2013-2015.
