The Kathy Whitworth ‘88’ Golf Tournament is underway today at Trophy Club CC in Trophy Club, Texas. Hosted by the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour, a capacity field of 132 professional golfers from 13 countries and 30 U.S. states are competing for prize money and an opportunity to further their journey to the LPGA. Tournament play will continue through Saturday, July 20.

Some of the pros got a head start playing Trophy Club’s Kathy Whitworth Course yesterday (Tuesday, July 16) in a competitive Pro-Am event.

The winning Pro-Am team – led by professional golfer Yoonhee Kim – turned in an impressive score of 59. Amateur team members included Carl Wilson, Charee Wilson, and Kevin Whipple. Mr. Wilson’s company Capital Asset Resources, Inc., is the presenting sponsor of the Kathy Whitworth ‘88’.

Yoonhee Kim, from San Ramon, California, finished 13th on the 2023 official Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT) Money List playing 13 events and making 11 cuts. The UC-Davis alumna turned pro in 2020 and expresses appreciation for all of the support she receives from friends and family as she continues her journey to the Road to the LPGA.

Yoonhee’s team won in a scorecard playoff over pro Anna Nordfors and her team of Erik Anderson, Ronnie Hanson, and Jimmy Brown, also from the tournament’s presenting sponsor.

A Swedish professional golfer, Anna attended Campbell University and the University of Central Florida. She played for UCF during the 2022-23 season where multiple individual school-records were broken. She represented Sweden in multiple international tournaments in 2022.

A lively reception followed the pro-am competition with many special guests, including President and CEO of the ANNIKA Foundation Rob Ahno, Capital Asset Resources President Carl Wilson, and Tim Koressel, general manager of the Lakes of Castle Hills Golf Club and prior general manager of Trophy Club Country Club, and Pat Wheeler, host of “Hit It Where They Mow: Talking Golf in Texas” podcast.

Trophy Club Mayor Jeannette Tiffany shared brief remarks as she and other town leaders, including Town Manager Brandon Wright, Council members Stacey Bauer, Jeff Beach, and LuAnne Oldham, were recognized.

Also honored were Anthony Baeze and H. Dee Branin, part of the NM Founders – and who have committed to a contribution of $8,800 annually to the Kathy Whitworth ‘88’ Gift. The Gift Award is a cash prize given to young professional golfer to support their quest to join the LPGA.

Speakers also included Gary DeSerrano, Chief Executive Officer of K&G Sports, Cathy Harbin, co-chairman of the Kathy Whitworth ‘88’ Tournament; Bettye Odle, chairman of the Kathy Whitworth Foundation, and Anne Parton, CEO of Independence Bourbon, who has announced the co-branding of a bourbon in honor of Kathy Whitworth.
