Pairings, tee times announced for BJ's Charity Championship

Past champions Rosie Jones and Michele Redman among 24 LPGA Legends in the field.

(September 7, 2022 – Sandwich, Massachusetts) – The Ridge Club is set to host 24 Legends of the LPGA in an 18-hole team event on Friday, September 9th as the BJ’s Charity Championship presented by Kimberly-Clark makes its 5th appearance in Sandwich, Mass.

The field includes defending champions Jan Stephenson of Sydney, Australia, a World Golf Hall of Fame member and teammate Laura Diaz of Ponte Vedra, Fla., a two-time LPGA Tour winner who notched her first victory on the Legends circuit at last year’s tournament. The pair combined for a 13-under par 59, edging runners-up Laura Davies and Trish Johnson by one shot for the win.

Rosie Jones of Hilton Head, S.C., a 13-time LPGA Tour champion, will once again team up with two-time LPGA Tour winner Michele Redman, a Plymouth, Minn. native who has carded four wins on the Legends of the LPGA.

“I love the course layout,” said Redman, who won the inaugural team event in 2017 at The Ridge Club with four-time LPGA Tour champion Patti Rizzo. Redman won the BJ’s Charity Championship a second time in 2019 when paired with Jones.

“Rosie and I have teamed up many times before,” said Redman. “We are comfortable playing together and our games definitely combine well in this format. We’re looking forward to it.”

The only team event featured on the Legends of the LPGA schedule in recent years, the BJ’s Charity Championship is made up of 12 two-person teams filling six foursomes and requiring just one hour of tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. on Hole 1. The format is a scramble, meaning each twosome plays from the best position achieved by either player for every shot.

“It’s a very relaxing, fun atmosphere,” added Redman. “The fact that it’s a team event and you have a partner just makes it a great tournament for us – and for the fans.”

Another pairing to watch includes the team of Amy Alcott and Hollis Stacy, two World Golf Hall of Famers who have combined for 47 LPGA Tour wins and 8 major championship titles. Massachusetts native Pat Bradley, an LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer with 31 LPGA Tour wins, will take on The Ridge with a new partner this year: Jamie Fischer, a former Tour player turned nationally recognized LPGA teaching professional out of Lake Forest, Ill.

Admission is free and gates open at 9:00 a.m. There is no public parking at The Ridge Club, but fans can park for free at nearby Holly Ridge Golf Course (121 Country Club Rd.) and take a free parking shuttle directly to the tournament entrance. The shuttle runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Masks may be required on shuttle regardless of vaccination status; please plan accordingly.

Portable chairs are welcome. Attendees are asked to place all mobile devices on silent and flash photography is not permitted. Autographs may be obtained following play near the scoring tent on Hole 18. The trophy ceremony will be held at approximately 3:30 p.m. on 18 green immediately following play.
